WASHINGTON (18 June) – U.S. Rep. Gus M. Bilirakis (R-Fla.), a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Subcommittee on Middle East and South Asia, today issued the following statement after the House passed a bipartisan resolution expressing support for all Iranian citizens who struggle for freedom, human rights, civil liberties, and the protection of the rule of law:

“The full will of the Iranian people, a great many of whom reject and despise the rule of the Ayatollahs and reject the fraudulent election process, must be heard. They must know that the American people stand in support of their desire for free and fair elections in their country and recognize the Iranian dissidents as they stand up for freedom.

“Iranians should also know that the people of the United States are fully committed to a post-Islamic revolutionary Iran that is dedicated to the will and liberty of all of its citizens, who embrace the values of freedom, human rights and civil liberties.”

Today the House passed H.Res. 560, a resolution which supports all Iranian citizens, condemns the violence against demonstrators, and affirms the importance of democratic and fair elections
